News: Provider of the Year Award
Judy Fowler

Picture of Judy Fowler

The Provider of the Year Award is given to a person or organization that provides quality services to people with developmental disabilities. It is someone or an organization that goes beyond
everyone’s expectations.

This year, Judy Fowler is that very special Provider. As part of the early
childhood services team in Jefferson County, when it became clear that Jeffco First Steps would be moving
over to DDRC, she did whatever she could to help ensure a smooth transition. She worked with the staff
to try to keep all the experienced employees so that they could continue to provide DDRC with the level of
expertise that is expected at DDRC and Part C.

Judy Fowler is a provider of nutritional services to DDRC families in the Early Intervention (EI) Part C Program. She contracted with DDRC for many years. In her work with our early interventionists, she provides an amazing amount of nutritional information for our families. What she does goes above and beyond our expectations. She routinely consults with EI team members on issues related to nutrition and feeding. When staff provides Judy with food diaries for the children they serve, she analyzes the information at no cost to DDRC. Additionally, she provides training for the EI team, also at no cost. This training is an invaluable resource to the EI team, helping them use a more holistic approach to serving children. It educates the team to recognize when a nutrition specialist should be consulted.

The Early Intervention team is working with Judy to develop a nutritional screening tool to identify children at risk for poor nutrition. We are especially excited to use this tool to screen premature infants. During a recent meeting to discuss the needs of our infants, Judy offered to provide a scale that will enable the team to weigh children during their home visits. This allows the team to identify children at risk sooner.

Judy has become one of our most trusted and valued team members. She is always willing to go the extra mile to help early intervention children and their families. The EI team feels that she has shown the high quality traits that make her deserving of this special award.

DDRC is thankful for all Judy continues to do on behalf of children served by DDRC and the wonderful training she provides to our staff, so they in turn can help even more families.
