DDRC FiretruckThe DDRC Firetruck

We would like to introduce you to our 1955 International Harvester Fire Truck that was donated by Dick and Candy Markley and restored by volunteers and donations by various businesses and organizations. The fire truck was first owned by the Wheat Ridge Fire Department, and then sold to the Pine Fire Department. After many years of quality service it was retired and ended up in an outside storage area not far from the DDRC Building. Needless to say it was in bad condition and needed to be rescued. With a lot of generous volunteer time and hard work from staff, the Fire Truck is now a proud ambassador for people with developmental disabilities.

Volunteers of parents and people with developmental disabilities, and staff enter it in parades throughout Jefferson County to increase awareness and inform parents of the services provided by DDRC and many private providers. The fire truck also participates in weddings, birthday parties and other occasions as requested by friends of DDRC in the community. Donations are generously given to DDRC to help people with developmental disabilities for its appearance at these occasions.

If you and your family would like to participate in a parade or have it come to your child’s birthday party or wedding, simply call Ron Marquez at 303.233.3363 for details. The parades are usually on Saturdays from June to the first part of September. Most parades start at 9:30 a.m. and end by noon. Please check our calendar for dates and locations of parades.
